Bad Jobs!

Massachusetts is becoming a tougher place to run wage scams.  The Governor’s Task Force on the Underground Economy is putting a bullseye on employers who pay under the table or offer “independent contractor” status to employees.  These are what we call “bad jobs”.  Why do we call them “bad jobs”?

They’re bad because workers must pay the employer’s share of withholding taxes.
They’re bad because workers are usually denied unemployment benefits.
They’re bad because employers frequently evade the workers compensation law, and workers are often denied benefits when they are hurt on the job.
They’re bad because workers rarely receive health or pension benefits. They’re bad because workers rarely Social Security credits for the years they work.
They’re bad because workers often get cheated out of wages or overtime pay.
