Union Contractor Wins Boston Schools Summer Re-Paint Work

DC 35 signatory M. L. McDonald Co. is the successful low bidder in the competition for the Boston Public Schools summer re-paint work.  The contract is worth about $860,000.00 and will involve 3 schools.  The city had seen two recent low bidders - L&H Construction and Homer Contracting - heavliy fined and debarred after violating the state's wage laws.  Both companies had been the subject of DC 35 complaints.

The 2009 bidding was subject to bidding requirements negotiated by DC 35 and Community Labor United with the School Department.  The work will start when school is out for the summer at the end of June.  Another large school project - the Lewenburg School - is a good bet to go union, as well.
