MEDICAID AND EDUCATION FUNDING PASSES SENATE

(Communication from Rich Rogers, Executive Sec. Tres. GLBC)

Significant relief for Massachusetts’ hard pressed residents may be on the
way thanks to a successful effort today in the United States Senate to
restore federal Medicaid and education funding. Massachusetts stands to
receive $655 million a much-needed boost to the state’s depleted coffers.

The vote today to break a Republican filibuster was by a 61-38 vote with
Maine’s two Republican Senators Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe joining with the Democratic majority. The bill, which now only requires a simple majority, is expected to pass the Senate later this week.

Massachusetts’ junior Senator Scott Brown once again put his affiliation
with the Republican leadership ahead of the interests of Massachusetts
working families.

Just as he did on Unemployment Insurance, Senator Brown demonstrated a callous disregard for the residents of the Commonwealth that have been
crushed by the economic collapse engineered by financial elites’ noted GBLC.
